Bio
Shantel Han is a classically trained pianist and educator who started learning piano at the age of 6. She has distinguished herself in numerous solo and concerto competitions, including earning First Prize in the Young Artist solo division of the University of Utah SummerArts Competition. Shantel has appeared as a featured soloist with the American West Symphony, performing works such as Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4.
She has participated in the Sid & Mary Foulger International Music Festival (2013, 2014) and the Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy (2017). These festivals consist of intensive daily chamber coaching and piano instruction that result in multiple performances in various concert venues. In recognition of her achievements at the University of Utah’s School of Music, Shantel was selected to represent the university in a masterclass with Hans Boepple at the 2018 UMTA Conference and was nominated for the College of Fine Arts Outstanding Senior Award. In 2021, she attended a weeklong intensive piano course in La Balie, France.

Shantel received her Bachelor of Music with dual emphases in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy in 2021. Throughout her undergraduate studies, she was a recipient of several scholarships, including the Gerald B. Tracy Memorial Piano Endowed Scholarship, the Emma Eccles Jones Fine Arts Leadership House Endowed Scholarship, and the J. George Jones College of Fine Arts Advisory Board Scholarship, awarded annually to two outstanding juniors in their field of study in the College of Fine Arts. Her professors include Dr. Yu Jane Yang, Jeffrey Price, Vedrana Subotic, and Viktor Valkov. She has also worked with distinguished artists such as Catherine Rollin, Bruno Canino, Paulina Zamora, Paula da Matta, Christopher O'Riley, Boris Berman and others. Shantel continued her studies at the University of Utah School of Music, earning her Master's degree in Piano Performance.
Shantel is a dedicated educator with over 9 years of experience teaching students of all ages. Her teaching journey began in 2016, where she led both group and individual lessons at piano preparatory and outreach programs. She later established her own private studio in Salt Lake City before relocating to Jersey City. Her teaching philosophy focuses on developing well-rounded musicians who are not only technically proficient but also creatively expressive and develop a lifelong love for music. Shantel is a member of the Steinway & Sons Educational Partnership Program and is experienced with preparing her students for ABRSM exams, competitions, and college auditions.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Shantel completed a minor in drawing, merging her love for art and music. She remains open to collaborative artistic ventures.
